Conan O’Brien: It’s been all over the news, so we have to address it, Fiddy. What’s this about you filing for bankruptcy?
50 Cent: (with the widest, whitest smile I’ve ever seen from a “broke” man) You know, I need protection. People come at you…
Is it just me, or did 50 Cent admit he’s trying to perpetuate fraud? Isn’t fraud a felony? Don’t people go to jail for committing crimes such as this?
U.S. Code 523-Exceptions to discharge state filing bankruptcy does not entitle the debtor from any debt under several circumstances, one of them being the following:
Where was his counsel? Why didn’t they advise him of exactly which words to use as he would undoubtedly have to answer this question after filing a Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday, just hours before a court appearance to discuss his finances?
Mr. Jackson, you seem to be an astute businessman, but you’re forgetting to be about your business man in an effort to be charming and entertaining for an audience. When the laughter stops, the consequences will remain and then the question becomes…can you handle the consequences?
I’m not a lawyer, although law school is still on my bucket list, but if I were Mr. Jackson’s aka 50 Cent’s attorney, I’d definitely advise him: 1) Take the matter seriously when the question is posed regardless of who is asking. I would assume that because a comedian posed the question, he didn’t feel the need to respond the way he would if he were in front of a judge 2) Of exactly what to say when the questions are posed and 3) Use your lawyers that you have on retainer more effectively – as smart as you are, I know you have lawyers on retainer, so make them earn it.
You may see yourself as an amateur comedian, but you don’t see professional comedians getting sued for the things they say/do, so run stuff by your lawyers before you post simply because of your status. Protect yourself before they have to “protect” you from yourself.
This, of course, is all just my opinion, so I’m getting down off of my soapbox for now.
Yours in health, wealth and the written-word!
